Assembly of Yahuah
New Moon
Sighting Report
Help the assembly confirm the Rosh Chodesh — submit your new moon sighting photos and observations each month.
Why It Matters
Watching for the Rosh Chodesh
The new moon marks the beginning of each month on Yahuah’s calendar. As a Torah-observant assembly, we rely on actual sightings of the renewed crescent moon — not astronomical calculations alone — to confirm the Rosh Chodesh.
When members across different locations submit sightings, it strengthens the witness of the whole assembly. Two or more witnesses seeing and reporting the crescent helps us walk together in unity on Yahuah’s appointed times.
“He made the moon for the appointed times; the sun knows its going down.” — Psalm 104:19
Conjunction
The moon is invisible — between earth and sun. This is not the new month yet.
Crescent Sighting
A thin sliver appears at sunset on the western horizon. This confirms Rosh Chodesh!

Step by Step
How to Sight & Report
Know When to Look
Begin watching on the evening of the expected conjunction date — typically 1 to 2 days after the astronomical new moon. Look within 30–60 minutes after sunset on the western horizon.
What to Look For
Look for a very thin crescent low in the western sky just after the sun sets. It will appear briefly before setting itself. Binoculars can help, but naked-eye sightings are preferred for reporting.
Check Conditions
Clear skies with low humidity give the best visibility. Note your conditions: Was it clear, hazy, or cloudy? Were there obstructions on the horizon? Even a failed sighting attempt is worth reporting.
Take Your Photo
If you see the crescent, photograph it! Use portrait mode or night mode if available. Include the horizon in the shot for reference. Video clips are also welcome.
Record Your Details
Note the exact date, local time, and your location (city/state). Record whether you used naked eye, binoculars, or a camera. Include a brief description of what you saw.
